DOT Mugwort Herb Pillow
Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)
Element: Earth
Mugwort or ‘Lady Artemisia’ is considered an ‘Oneirogen’ herb. Traditionally thought to enhance dreaming and induce surreal, vivid and hypnotic dream states.
“A pillow stuffed with mugwort and slept upon will produce prophetic dreams”. - Scott Cunningham (Cunningham 2021).
“To experience interesting dreams that are said to reveal one’s future, stuff a pillow with about a pound of this herb and sleep on it”. - Jeanne Rose, (Rose, 1972 p. 86).
“Stuff 8 oz. of mugwort into a pillow and sleep on it; you will be surprised at the dreams you’ll have”. - Jeanne Rose (Rose 1972 p. 149).
“Inhaling the scent of the herb mugwort is thought to open the third eye (the door to dreams). Smelling it while sleeping is not only thought to assist you in remembering dreams, but to reveal dreams of the future. When you sleep with a pillow filled with mugwort, a connection is established between the fragrance of the herbs and your desire for a special dream”. - Denise Linn (Linn 1988 p. 83).
Designed and handmade by Jess. The idea to make herbal pillows was inspired by Jess’ readings of old traditional herbal texts and interest in herbal esoteric’s. Jess hopes that they may inspire people to reconnect with Nature and bring herbs into their daily lives.
Instructions:
Place a herbal pillow on or next to your pillow during sleep.
When working with ‘Lady Artemisia’ (Mugwort) and other ‘Oneirogen’ herbs and plants to enhance dream states, it is important to honour the plant you are working with, as this is a co-creation between yourself and the plant. Approach with an open heart, centre yourself and silently express your intention before falling asleep. Some find that this process is enhanced by also drinking Mugwort tea prior to sleep. Please see a qualified Naturopath to ensure herbs are safe for you before taking internally.
You can very gently rub the pillow occasionally, as herbs will release more of their scent when bruised.
